Why Can't I Edit a Record?

You opened a record but the fields are disabled or you get an error when trying to save your changes.

  1. Another user edited the record at the same time (version conflict). HARi uses optimistic locking. If someone else saved changes to the same record after you opened it, your save will be rejected to prevent overwriting their changes.

  2. The record is in a restricted state. Records in certain states (e.g., Archived or Completed) may be locked from further editing.

  3. Your profile doesn’t have update permission. You may have read access to view the record but not update access to edit it.

  4. A workflow or business process is controlling the record. Some business process flows restrict which fields can be edited at each stage.

  1. Version conflict: If you see a message about a newer version, refresh the record to load the latest data. Review what the other user changed, then make your edits and save again.

  2. State restriction: Check the record’s state indicator. If it shows “Archived” or “Inactive”, change the state back to “Active” first (if your profile allows it), then edit.

  3. Permission issue: Ask your administrator to check your profile’s update permission for this entity (see How to Fix Permission Denied Errors).

  4. Business process restriction: If specific fields are disabled because of a business process stage, you may need to advance the record to the appropriate stage before those fields become editable.

If none of the above apply, try opening the record in a private/incognito browser window to rule out browser cache issues. If the record is still locked, contact your administrator with the record ID and the specific error message.
